HV30: Tretower Court & Castle {Ancestor}
"The ancient seat of the Vaughan family is located in eastern Wales. Sir Roger Vaughan, my 17th great-grandfather, and his son, Sir Roger Vaughan, both fought with King Henry V in the Battle of Agincourt in 1415 and were knighted afterwards. After the senior Sir Roger died, his widow remarried to a Herbert and the Tretower properties (including the ruins of an older castle) were given to the younger Sir Roger in about 1450. As these were still dangerous times, an existing older building on the property was greatly expanded by Sir Roger into the current large fortified manor house that the Vaughan family occupied continuously for centuries. In the 1930's, the property was acquired by 'CADW' (the Welsh National Trust).
