The Affordable Backup Power & Solar Generator Solution
- Start and later expand a solution as your finances permit. simply purchase and plug together readily available devices and cables. and no need to get government approvals or any electrician services.
Recently, some new high-tech companies started making a small inexpensive toolbox-sized power device known as a Portable Power Station, or PPS. Originally designed for outside activities, these devices come in various capacities and can be recharged by plugging into a regular utility power outlet, or from an automobile power outlet, or by small solar panels.
I accidentally came across these devices when investigating traditional gas-powered home generators. After doing more research and using my engineering knowledge, I conceived the idea of using several of the smaller PPS models to provide a limited-capability Backup Power Solution that could allow my family to stay in their home comfortably during a short-term power outage. This concept that I call 'PPS-Zones' can provide an affordable and easily customized Backup Power Solution that could be suitable for use in many houses, apartments, or small businesses.
Install 'PPS-Zones' instead of one centralized home backup power source and save money. First, separate logical "Zones" are identified within a premises, then the power needs of the lights and essential appliances that serve that Zone are examined. Next, a PPS is selected that is appropriate for that Zone. Then simply plug your lamps or other electrical devices into the PPS and plug the PPS into your home's wall outlet. Optional small solar panels also could be installed in a nearby sunny area and a connecting cable plugged into the PPS. Any solar power then supplied to the PPS reduces your home's normal electric utility bill since the PPS only draws additional power from your utility grid as needed.
The technology in a PPS is amazing! Within thirty-thousandth of a second after a PPS detects a utility power outage, the PPS will automatically connect any electrical device plugged into it to receive power from its built-in battery. When the power outage is over, the PPS will automatically reconnect those devices back to using normal utility power and automatically recharge itself! Besides monitoring the status of an individual PPS by looking at its display, our recommended units support a Wi-Fi connection. A free mobile app can be used to monitor all your PPS units to see real-time information such as each's Remaining Discharge Time, Electrical Power Output, Solar Power Input, etc.
Because most zone-sized PPS typically weigh less than twenty pounds, a PPS can be moved easily between Zones as needs change and go with occupants temporarily moving to another Zone. A PPS could be carried to a different Zone to transfer some or all of its battery-power to another PPS. As newer technology devices become available in the future, different and more powerful PPSs and solar panels can be easily added.
