HV28:  Barrell Grove House {Ancestor}

HV-320x240x300dpi_28-Barrell-Grove-House

"The original small house on the left-side was built about 1712 in York (Maine) and given by Judge Jonathan Sayward, my 7th great-grandfather, as a wedding present to his daughter Sarah, my 6th great-grandmother, when she married Nathaniel Barrell in 1758.  The middle section of the house was added in about 1760, and the remainder in 1840.  This historical house is now being preserved because it was the birthplace of Sarah Sayward Barrell (Keating) (Wood), my 5th great-grandmother, the first woman novelist in Maine.

The image used for printing is from a high-resolution scan of the original oil painting that I created on a 11" x 14"  linen-covered wooden panel in 2024."   -- Henry Vaughan
