HV25:  Sayward-Wheeler House {Ancestor}

HV-320x240x300dpi_25-Sayward-Wheeler-House

This house was built about 1718 in York Harbor (Maine) and purchased by my 7th great-grandfather, Jonathan Sayward, in 1720 and then occupied by family members for over 250 years.  Sayward was a successful international lumber trader, served in the Massachusetts legislature, and was appointed a Judge in the General Court in the 1760's.  Although he was respected by his neighbors, Sayward was held under house arrest during the American Revolution because he refused to endorse the separation from England.  The house is preserved by 'Historic New England' and most of the home's original 18th century furnishings remain intact.

The image used for printing is from a high-resolution scan of the original oil painting that I created on a 11" x 14"  linen-covered wooden panel in 2024."   -- Henry Vaughan
