Summer camps on the side of one of Maine's numerous lakes have been are a long-standing tradition in Maine and are usually passed on from one generation to the next. Besides these small unheated seasonal rustic cottages owned by families of modest means, Maine also has numerous larger camps where generations of out-of-state young people stay for a week or more to experience the Great Outdoors.
